The mucus is the thin and slippery secretions that act as a lubricant. In cystic fibrosis, the mucus becomes thick & sticky and clogs up the tubes, ducts and passageways, which create problems for lungs, pancreas, liver and intestine. ----------------------------- Symptoms • Thick & sticky mucus • Clogged tubes, ducts & passageways • Deficiency of vitamins A& E • Loss of energy • Persistent cough, • Repeated lung infections • Wheezing • Breathlessness • Poor growth • Weight loss ----------------------------- Food groups to consume in cystic fibrosis: 1.Proteins, carbohydrates and fats: Help to gain energy Foods to consume: Lentils, chicken, fish, cottage cheese, cheese, milk,eggs, oats, millets, rice, brown rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, butter, peanut butter, avocado, nuts, pumpkin seeds & sunflower seeds 2. Vitamin A,& E : Help to absorb and store the fats Foods to consume: Egg yolks, papaya, tomatoes, oranges, spinach, apricot, nuts, oils and seeds 3. Omega 3 rich foods: Help to reduce inflammation Foods to consume: Flaxseeds, walnuts, soya beans and fish such as tuna & mackerels 4. Anti-Mucus Foods: Decrease mucus production Foods to consume: Garlic, onions, lemon, parsley, green tea & celery ----------------------------- Recipes based on the above food groups: Recipe 1: Banana and milk drink 1. Put 1 banana and 1 cup of milk in a blender 2. Add 1 tbsp of peanut butter and a pinch of cinnamon powder to taste 3. Mix 5-6 almonds in it and blend them all 4. Pour in glass and make sure to serve chilled This is a healthy high calorie drink! Recipe 2: Rich in proteins egg 1. Whisk together 2 eggs in a bowl 2. Add 2-3 chopped spinach leaves 3. Add 4 chopped mushrooms to it 4. Also add 1 tbsp sunflower seed 5. Add salt and pepper to taste 6. Whisk this egg mixture well 7. Now, heat 1 tsp oil in a pan 8. Pour the egg mixture in it 9. Then cook it on both sides till it is golden brown 10. Remove it in a plate 11. Top it with 1 tbsp chopped spring onions and 1 tbsp chopped tomato 12.
