The genetic origins of the Japanese population have long been shrouded in mystery.There are debates over the "tripartite origins" model that suggests the Japanese people have three distinct ancestral roots.A new study called JEWEL has shed new light on this long-standing question, by analyzing the genomes of over three thousand and two hundred Japanese individuals across seven different regions of Japan.This dataset enabled a deeper understanding of the genetic characteristics and history of the modern Japanese population.The study also examined the genetic legacy of our extinct human relatives, the Neanderthals and Denisovans, and their associations with various phenotypes in the Japanese population.
