The Berkshire Mall's final days

Recorded on February 22nd, 2024, this might be one of the final videos and tours of the now run down Berkshire Mall before it's planned demolition. Access to the mall is restricted. Erected and opened in 1988, The Berkshire Mall was the place to be for many years, with indoor growing trees, movie theater and arcade, and iconic slide-like sculpture in the center. It's where you would go for a night out, with a large variety of shops over the years such as GameStop, Best Buy, Sears, Macy's, and lots more. There were a few different hair salons over the decades as well as jewelry outlets. The mall had a rodent and rat problem for 20+ years, and it wasn't uncommon to see a bird or two inside the mall either. It's had a slew of problems throughout it's life. Sources state it was difficult to keep the problem under control and guest would sometimes complain about a drowned rat in the bathroom toilet. As the steady decline of the mall moved forward, unique and niche shops were starting to take over the husks of the former chain stores. A wrestling arena from a local trope would take over a Fan Zone store (Previously Old Navy). A giant stock car racing outlet took over where Jay Street Video games was (GameStop before that!) and a bounce house village of sorts with mini golfing and gem mining took over what was a clothing store many years ago. In the year 2019, all shops were pulled out and access to the mall was blocked off. Only Regal Cinemas and Target would remain open. In 2022 Regal Cinemas lease ran out and they too pulled out of the mall, leaving only an attached Target, like a barnacle on a beached whale. Rumors as to what will become of the mall are running rampant, with one source saying it's scheduled for demo and will become a community for elderly living facilities.
