This theme is the penultimate song of AMERICANA, the fifth studio album by the American punk rock band The Offspring, released on November 10, 1998. Following a worldwide tour in support of its previous album, Ixnay on the Hombre (1997), The Offspring commenced work on a new album. The Offspring has been labeled under multiple genres, such as punk rock, pop punk, skate punk and alternative rock. A signature style of the Offspring are their chorused "whoas", "heys", or "yeahs". Their lyrics cover a wide range of topics, like personal relationships, such as in their songs "She's Got Issues", "Self Esteem" and "Spare Me the Details", and the degradation of the United States, politics, and society in general with songs like "It'll Be a Long Time", "Americana" and "Stuff Is Messed Up". The lyrics generally reflect a sarcastic viewpoint, which, along with the language, can be offensive to some. THE OFFSPRING Is an American punk rock band from Huntington Beach, California, formed in 1984. Originally formed under the name Manic Subsidal, the band consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dexter Holland, bassist Greg K., lead guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman and drummer Pete Parada. The Offspring went through several lineup changes over the years, and Holland and Greg K. have been the only constant members. The band is often credited—alongside fellow California punk bands Green Day and Rancid—for reviving mainstream interest in punk rock in the 1990s Current members Dexter Holland – vocals, rhythm guitar, piano (1984–present) Noodles – lead guitar, backing vocals (1985–present) Greg K. – bass, backing vocals (1984–present) Pete Parada – drums, percussion (2007–present) AMERICANA On the album's direction, Holland told Guitar World, "The idea wasn't to reinvent the wheel. We expanded our horizons on our last record and that's okay, but I don't feel like you have to be a completely different band on every record." While most songs are the regular punk rock the band popularized, others such as the Latino-influenced "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" and the psychedelic "Pay the Man" add variety "so that there's enough in there so people don't get bored". "Pay the Man" was even left off Ixnay on the Hombre for sounding too different from anything else the band had currently made at that time. The structure of the song more resembles progressive rock (having no repetitive sections, and no continuous musical theme). AMERICANA LYRICS Well i'd like to tell you all about my dream, it's a place Where strip malls abound and diversion's mere moments away Where culture's defined by the Ones least refined And you'll be left behind If you don't fit in It's all distorted In americana my way Well my dream has come true My vision has come true Now give me my cable, fast food, four-by's, tat's right away I want it right now cause my generation don't like to wait My future's determined by Thieves, thugs, and vermin It's quite an excursion But it's okay Everything's backwards In americana my way Well my dream has come true My vision has come true I'm a product Of my environment So don't blame me, i just work here My rights are denied by Those least qualified Trading profit for pride But it's okay Everything's backwards In americana my way My nightmare has come true My nightmare has come true Yeah, it's all coming true VIDEO: The Offspring at Rock in Rio 2013, "Americana" live SOURCE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...)
