Meet the Animals: Piccolo the Green Iguana

Piccolo is part of our newest traveling exhibition, Under the Canopy: Animals of the Rainforest. Green Iguanas are typically found in Central America, South America and the Caribbean. They are considered a species of least concern, however despite extensive captive breeding, they are still exported in vast numbers from their home countries. They are also exploited heavily for food (meat and eggs), especially since they are so easy to capture, spending their time out in the open around disturbed habitats. By making choices to protect the rainforest ecosystem, we also save the green iguana's future and all the other species they share their home with.
