During the Baroque period, many orchestral works were only for strings, such as the famous Four Seasons by Vivaldi. In classicism, examples of music for strings are not so common, although we find magnificent works such as the well-known Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart. Among the later works for string orchestra, my favorites are Grieg's Holdberg Suite and Tchaikovsky's Serenade, but also Bernard Hermann's excellent music for the film Psycho. In my composition I use a nonatonic scale that allows harmonies derived from the augmented fifth. It is divided into three movements: a rhythmic first movement in sonata form, a lyrical second movement where the melody passes through the different instrumental sections, and a frenetic final movement, a wild race towards the abyss.
