Autumn hunting season 2023: illegalities observed by BirdLife Malta

This video highlights some of the illegalities witnessed by BirdLife Malta teams in just under three weeks of the five-month autumn hunting season 2023. In this time, 163 illegalities were recorded, which ranged from detecting illegal electronic callers to observing protected birds shot down. These videos were recorded from 22nd September to 11th October, and during this period, BirdLife Malta also picked up 10 illegally shot protected birds. The victims included certain species that would be highly sought after for taxidermy reasons, such as Osprey and Greater Flamingo. The autumn hunting season will end on 31st January 2024.
