I originally made this layout just for funsies with my favorite newgrounds song. However the 2p contest was announced so I figured I would decorate it for that. I started with just a happy theme but then multiple people in my life passed away. I spent a lot of time reliving the memories I had with those people in my head. When the contest got extended, I thought it would be a good idea to make that the theme of the level. It is a little messy because I had to super rush it while being an overtime student and having a job in less than a month but I am happy with the product. Unfortunately I had to nerf it alot hours before the deadline since I was having trouble verifying. I am highly considering doing an update where I finish the ideas I had for the level. Note: The events and such displayed in the level are not necessarily real events, just inspired by things in my life. This level is also not about those people but rather about my experience reliving those memories. The level has some neat symbolism I figured I would share here. First of all, the level is a 2p level but designed to be played solo. This relates to the theme as reminiscing over memories is usually something you do in solitude but sometimes with others but never with the person in question. The structuring in the level is also meant to be a little unnatural and not blend in perfectly since the structures are a metaphor for the actual precise interactions I have in my memories. I don't have a perfect memory so my brain fills in gaps in my memories. I wanted the structures to represent how my brain fills in details when I look at an old photograph for example. It creates a disconnect since those "structures" aren't real and didn't actually happen, its all just a figment of my own brain to make the memory fuller. Lastly, the scrapbook part is intentionally very static. I wanted it this way since looking back at old photos is always very static. The images don't move and I wanted to represent that in a part of the level. Its only up to your imagination to actually bring those memories back to life which is what the drop is supposed to represent. Song: Come Alive by Kabukitunes https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/list...
