What is HALO™ Hybrid Fractional Laser? Prior to the development of the hybrid fractional laser (HFL), patients had to choose between an ablative treatment with longer downtime and a non-ablative treatment with no downtime but with far less effectiveness. An ablative laser is considered the most effective treatment to improve signs of aging by removing the outer layers of damaged skin, triggering the body’s healing mechanism to increase collagen production and reveal healthier tighter skin. The main disadvantage to deep ablative laser treatment is a fairly long recovery period of up to a week or longer. A non-ablative laser heats the outer layers of the skin but does not remove them resulting in little or no downtime but requiring many treatments to achieve treatment goals. By combining micro-ablative and non-ablative fractional laser treatments targeting the epidermis and dermis, respectively, at the same time, HALO offers results that are more similar to ablative laser treatments but with very little downtime for the best of both worlds. Most patients experience noticeably improved skin tone and texture after only 1 or 2 treatments. With dual wavelengths each treatment can be customized based on each patient’s unique needs.
