It was another beautiful day in Galicia, Spain. Unfortunately, it was also historically hot, which made this leg of the Camino very difficult. Come enjoy some of the sights and sounds of the famous Camino de Santiago! The hike - We really took our time on this hike. Normally, this can be done in 6 hours or less, but we made several stops along the way. The difficulty was not terribly high as long as you are fit enough to walk the full distance. There was a steep hill to start, which is quite a wakeup call for those beginning their journey of the Camino in Sarria. After that, however, there is a nice resting spot and you are treated to some beautiful scenery. Most of the rest of the first half of the hike is a steady incline, but nothing outrageous. The only decision point comes near the very end when you are to choose between shaving off a 1/2 kilometer or staying on a bikepath. The choice was shown in the video with the terrain. It has a couple big steps, but honestly if you made it this far, you should be able to make it through the difficult pedestrian terrain. Portomarin is absolutely awesome. Not shown in the video was - normally there are roman ruins visible in the river next to the city from the original city. It just so happens that on this day, the river was high and you could not see or visit them. Bummer. The story of how they moved the city from the river to the high ground is amazing and you should check it out.
