Shipra is a public policy student, graduate from Lady Shri Ram College, activist and the co-founder of Guhaar. In this talk she discusses the role of activism and media in bringing out the struggles, demolitions, evictions that take place every day in our country. She also speaks passionately about the ideas the Guhaar relies on and the role it has played in her life. 'Guhaar',a hindi word means voice of the people, is a non-profit organisation which seeks to be the media for social change. Their documentaries and bite-size videos, made using first-hand research, present the real struggles and voices of the unheard communities. Guhaar can help show a mirror to our country, through the universal medium of imagery and narratives, so that the people in our society are cognisant of what is happening, and the stark truth which lies in the eyes of our poor, exploited, vulnerable, and helpless victims of modern society. Shipra Singh uses media as a tool to highlight the voices of the marginalized and grass root movements through documentaries, movies and write-ups. At Guhaar, she provides media consultancy to social activity organizations spread across Bihar, Orissa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
