Viewpoints are an essential part of doing Model Reviews. Saved views allow You to share issues and get others to see what You have seen or observed in a project. Open the Viewpoint Tab in Navisworks and click on the camera to save a Viewpoint. Each view will be created and listed in the “Saved Viewpoints” tab. We recommend that the views follow a logical naming convention and include a running number sequence for easy identification later. As the viewpoints are used very often during the model review process, it’s a good idea to pin the tab open for quick and easy access to the views. An alternative way to save views, is to use the mouse right click option in the view window. Folders To organise a set of views together, it’s possible to create folders in the “Save Viewpoints” tab. Individual views or a group of views can be dragged into folders to improve the ease of finding them later. Perspective vs Orthographic For plan views and elevation views, it’s possible to create orthogonal views. Note that when You change a view projection, You will need to right click and update the appropriate saved view. In perspective view, maintain a Field of View (F.O.V.) between 95 and 100 degrees for a more realistic model presentation. Backgrounds You may want to change your background as some people like black screens and other people prefer lighter colours. This is also a useful trick to know when you have a meeting and the projector is not as good as You would like. Changing the background can improve the model appearance on screen. Lights There are a number of different Lighting systems. We prefer to use the headlight. You can play around with the different lighting options and You can see the effect of the different features. Render Styles There are four types of model presentation, namely Full Render, Shaded, Wireframe and Hidden Line. The most commonly used is Shaded as it requires less effort by the computer to refresh the view on screen. The other options may be useful during coordination reviews when You are trying to locate an object hidden in a model.
