This is what happens when community takes care of itself "EVERY SINGLE DAY"! The People's Free Store has been open since 2022. A real grocery store. Real food. Free. Fresh produce. Perishables. Dignity. No applications. No humiliation. No "prove your struggle." Over 200 people a day walk through this space. Children eat here daily. Elders shop without fear. Families leave with what they need, not what they're allowed! This store has supported hundreds of thousands of families directly and indirectly. It has helped grow agricultural programs. It has seeded food access in other neighborhoods. It has shown, quietly and consistently, that scarcity is not natural. This work is rooted in lived experience. Built by people who know what it means to grow up without safety nets. Built by people who were told to accept less and decided not to. There is no moral corruption here. No extraction. No savior complex. Just people feeding people. Every day this space opens, it proves something important: That when the people closest to the pain are trusted with the power, the outcome is care... not chaos. This may be the only sustained free grocery store of its kind in the country. And it has existed without applause, without headlines, without permission. That doesn't make it small.
