Have You Seen Mike Hunt? The Forgotten Wartime Track Too Vulgar for Radio! This raunchy wartime swing record was banned from radio in 17 states after a Navy nurse reportedly shouted the title in a mess hall, causing a sailor to choke on a herring and fall face-first into a vat of creamed corn. She was looking for her missing cat, named "Mike Hunt". Yeah, we are confused why people give thier animals full human names too. Like "Gary". too many cats are named Gary out there. "Have You Seen Mike Hunt?" by Jenny Talia was released in 1944 and immediately pulled from shelves due to widespread confusion, accidental arrests, and one reported exorcism in Tulsa. Found buried in a milk crate behind the radiator at Unusual Record Store, this crusty old 78rpm was stuck to a vintage Hobo Beans ad with what can only be described as "suspicious jelly." A poster reading “Free Fatty Charles” was taped to the sleeve, and a receipt inside suggests it was last purchased with a box of wartime condoms and a single clove. The cat threw up when we played it. Jenny Talia’s vocals are unmistakable—half siren, half sock full of nickels—and her delivery on “Have You Seen Mike Hunt?” has made this one of the most whispered-about tracks of the 1940s. The original label, Tally-Ho Shellac Co., went out of business the same week the record was released due to a mysterious flood of letters from angry librarians and a class-action suit filed by the Daughters of the American Revolution. If you’ve never seen Mike Hunt before, this is your chance. Just don’t scream it in public. #unusualrecordstore #mikehunt #jennytalia #1940svinyl #vintagevinyl #bannedrecord #swingmusic #foundfootage #shellac #weirdrecords #fattycharles #hobobeans #wartimeswing #rarevinyl #dustycrategems #forgottenmusic #cratedigging #obscurerecords
