A committed musician who stands out for his intense activity as a divulger of contemporary music, so he has made premieres as soloist and with the best ensembles both nationally and internationally. Solo and chamber recordings have been released by Tzadik, Innova, Wergo, Dorian, Mode and Quindecim. He has been the recipient of numerous awards such as, first place in the fourth Musical Performance Contest "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart" of UNAM, first prize of chamber music competition of UNAM, the award of the Union of Critics of Music and I.N.B.A. theatre, and the Stipendienpreis in the 42 Internationalen Ferienkursen für Neue Musik 2004 in Darmstadt, Germany. Manzanilla studied the degree in percussion at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and holds a DMA from the UCSD, where he studied under the tutelage of Steven Schick.
