The Evergoods Element Bifold Wallet (EBW) is a slim, lightweight wallet that carries 6-8 cards and a few pieces of currency in a minimalist form factor but which suffers from both usability issues and controversy regarding its design. 00:00 - Introduction 04:42 - Overview 05:28 - Design & Materials 08:44 - Card Carry 14:10 - Currency Carry 20:45 - Magnets? 23:59 - Wallet Controversy 25:59 - For/Not For 27:44 - Also Consider 30:44 - Who Knows... The EBW does have some strengths including: Lightweight, slim form factor: The EBW is one of the few wallets I’ve tried that comes relatively close to rivaling the fairly tiny size of my GOATed wallet of choice, the Bellroy Apex Slim Sleeve whilst matching or exceeding its carrying capacity. It’s also remarkably light weight (lighter than the Bellroy) at only 16.8grams Minimalist design: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I do think that people who appreciate minimalist design might be drawn to this wallet - we think it’s a nice looking wallet though the design itself is very much filled with controversy which (touched on in the video). Carries (shorter) currency with little fuss: it sounds like a ridiculous thing to praise a wallet for being able to carry currency without a lot of folding but many minimalist wallets on the market these days either can barely handle cash or requires you to fold it in half/triplicate to get it in and out. Relatively flexible capacity: Can do anything from 1 bill and 2 cards to 8 or more cards and a wad of bills which is pretty good for a minimal form factor wallet But there are also some notable downsides to this wallet. Too short for many major global currencies: Despite Evergood’s claim that the wallet is designed to carry a wide range of global currencies, in practice this wallet is too short and tolerances too tight for many common bills like the Euro and Yen. They technically fit but as soon as you start using the wallet they ride up and out and it is incredibly frustrating and annoying. Getting cards in and out is annoying: using the card slots is filled with friction and fuss and it really makes for an annoyingly slow and not particularly pleasant experience. Doesn’t always stay closed: Unlike some other wallets, this one does not have magnets to help keep it closed when not in use. In certain cases after heavy use the wallet can stay shut but also it can just as easily not stay shut even after use. The latter is most notable when you have more than a few bills, have freshc crisp new bills or especially if you have polymer bills - because they tend to be stiff and force the wallet open and really this could have been solved if they just put in magnets.
