#1 Roles of a Cat Leader 1. Protect territory! Maintain safety! Just as dogs have a pack leader who takes charge of their pack, cats also have a pack leader who is the highest on the social hierarchy. A cat leader will roam around his territory and protect the area, keeping it safe and making sure that other cats do not invade the zone. 2. No fighting in my territory! If a fight breaks out among cats in his territory, the cat leader will jump in and mediate. When cats fight, there is a possibility that their lives may be at risk as cats often get fatally wounded while fighting. It can also be stressful for other cats who are watching the fight. #2 Characteristics of a Cat Leader 1. Large-sized Casanova Cat leaders are highly likely to be male cats who are quite large such that they are recognizable from afar. Cats who have high levels of testosterone, also known as the male hormone, will grow larger and have wider faces. Also, amongst cats, those who have a wider face and larger body are considered handsome and attractive. 2. Laid back and relaxed Cat leaders tend to be laid back and have a relaxed personality. This is because no one is likely to challenge them as they are the strongest within their territory, 3. No covering up with sand after pooping Most cats have an instinct to cover up their scent with sand after they poop in order to protect themselves from predators. However, cat leaders do not cover up their poop in order to let others know that they are the leader. It is also a way to warn cats from other areas to prevent them from invading the territory. 4. Not afraid of humans Compared to other cats, a cat leader is not as afraid of humans or on guard around them. He may even go up to humans and smell them, but this may not necessarily be a sign of affiliation. A cat leader may behave in such a way in order to figure out whether the person who entered his territory is a threatening being.
