DeLorean AI's Renal AI product decreases hospitalizations by 25%. Further DeLorean AI has moved into Mental Health with Depression AI. Making better, more accurate medical decisions. A Rhode Island based company is making that possible for patients with chronic kidney disease, including those on dialysis. Delorean A-I was just getting off the ground a few years ago when we first talked to it's founder and CEO, Severence MacLaughlin who said he got the idea about 20 years ago. "I got my PhD in health care and back then, we didn't have big data and I said why don't we use data to make better medical decisions," said MacLaughlin. Now it's up and running and available to millions across the country, predicting the future, including at more than 240 Innovative Renal Care Dialysis Centers nationwide, including its location in East Providence. "We process 52 million patients, 40 million of those twice a day," said MacLaughlin. This isn't just a snap shot of a patient, it's the entire medical record. "It's clinical, it's blood work, it's hospital records, it's electronic records, it's claims," said MacLaughlin. In the case of those on dialysis? "It will predict who has the best chances for a transplant," said MacLaughlin. "And we can give you the time frame of the prediction, the probability of the prediction and what the next best action for the physician, for the nurse, for the patient themselves, or the family, to take to get this individual better, stable or prevent them from going to the hospital." "What we've seen is our hospitalization rates have actually come down, particularly in this clinic through effective use of the renal A-I. It allows us to get in front of the issues before they become an issue," said Kevin Highland, director of acute services for Innovative Renal Care. Leading to a 25% decrease in hospitalizations. "I think what this tool has done is it's able to show things much more scientifically. It gives the nurses and doctors just more leverage to be able to use," added Jaimie Bolster, New England Regional Vice President of operations for American Renal Associates, which is affiliated with Innovative Renal Care. Even beyond kidney care, there are applications. "We can predict a heart attack within three weeks with over 90% accuracy. We also do diabetes, COPD, " said MacLaughlin. One of its latest applications is using this A-I to better treat patients with mental health issues, such as depression. MacLaughlin said it can better predict which medications work for which patients and at what doses.
