It’s me! How is it copyright? I am interviewed by Kontji Anthony, host of Live at 9, WREG, to discuss my memoir and BOOKSTOCK. As a local author of Memphis, TN, I was interviewed to discuss the largest annual author’s festival in the city of Memphis, BOOKSTOCK, and my memoir, We Are Not Our Secrets: Joyce Smith. BOOKSTOCK is a day of family fun happening at Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Popular, April 6, 2024. There will be face painting and balloons for the children, live musical performances, food trucks, writing labs, keynote speakers, 60 (sixty) authors (myself among them), plus more surprises. Podcast entitled the same, We Are Not Our Secrets podcast, where adults tell their childhood stories that many have never discussed. All for the purpose of healing. More importantly, the podcast promotes what many don’t talk about: Prevention. Adverse experiences are handled after events occur. I believe training and tools can be given to prevent childhood adverse experiences, called ACEs by many Psychologists. This could alleviate generational cycles: those small and large, from bullying and narcissistic behaviors, to alleviating violent activities. These unaddressed ACEs are the root. It was an honor and pleasure to meet and be interviewed by the great Kontji Anthony.
