The summit is said to be "of historic importance" in that it is not only a "stand-alone" summit but also in that it will significantly boost security and economic cooperation between the three countries. What will be on the agenda and what could we expect from the summit? For an in-depth analysis, we invite Professor Kim Hyun-wook from Korea National Diplomatic Academy. Professor Kim, welcome to the show. We also have Evans Revere, Senior Advisor at Albright Stonebridge Group. Mr. Revere is also the former Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Good to see you again, Mister Revere. (KIM) Q1. A three-way summit is going to take place at Camp David later this week, and it has greater meaning considering it is taking place independently, not on the sidelines of any multilateral forum. How significant is the summit itself and of course the site, Camp David? (REVERE) Q2. It is widely expected that there'll be a discussion on regularizing the tripartite summit between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan --just like the QUAD. If it is held on a regular basis, what would that mean? (KIM) Q3. Though currently stalled, South Korea, Japan and China have held regular meetings as well. Seoul is supposed to host this year and is reportedly pushing for a resumption of these talks before the end of the year. If the Seoul-Washington-Tokyo meeting becomes regularized, how could the two annual talks affect each other? How effectively should the two be operated? (KIM) Q4. There is speculation that the three countries are going to improve communication methods, with some media calling it "setting up hotlines." What impact would this have if agreed upon? (REVERE) Q5. Now to the joint statement one thing that will be included is strengthened trilateral cooperation against North Korea's aggression. What measures to further boost security ties are going to be discussed? (REVERE) Q6. According to recent news, Chinese military hackers compromised Japan's classified defense networks years ago and Japanese networks are still considered not sufficiently secure which could impede boosting intelligence sharing between the three countries. What's your opinion on this? (KIM) Q7. According to the Financial Times, the U.S. might push South Korea and Japan to agree to consult each other "in the event of an attack." Though the National Security Adviser said the report is not true, how do you see the possibility of such a discussion taking place? (REVERE) Q8. The fact the possibility of such a discussion is coming out proves relations between Seoul and Tokyo have thawed indeed but there are still lingering issues between the two, especially regarding the release of the Fukushima wastewater. How should such issues be dealt with wisely? (KIM) Q9. According to the Financial Times, the United States is reportedly trying to include a phrase in the joint statement that the three countries share "common vulnerabilities" with North Korea and China in mind. But with South Korea not in a position to overlook relations with China, and with the U.S. also trying to improve ties with China, how should the China issue be addressed? (REVERE) Q10. Economic security issues --restructuring the chip supply chain and securing critical minerals too are expected to be on the agenda. Why is it important to boost economic ties and how might this be done? (KIM-REVERE) Q11. North Korea is showing off its ties with Russia and China more than ever and South Korea, Japan, and the United States are strongly boosting their ties.
