Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (1876-1948) was born in Italy to a German father and an Italian mother. He studied composing in Germany and was mainly known for his music for operas. Many of these were comedic operas, as can be heard on this record. This album presents an assortment of pieces from different operas for which he composed the music. Wolf-Ferrari (which BTW would be an excellent car name) has a light and lively style, that reflects the 18th century more than modern music. That being said, one could envision some of these arrangement fitting into the Golden Age of Hollywood musical compositions - such as in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. A final note, this 65 year old record is immaculate. Whoever owned it before took meticulous care. London Bluebacks are highly sought after, but unfortunately many that I have bought turned out to be noisy with ticks and hiss. This record and its cover look and sound like the day it produced decades ago.
