Tokyo overwhelms you. Kanazawa slows you down. This stop on my trip through Japan only lasted one rainy day, but it revealed a completely different side of the country. A former samurai stronghold where tradition still shapes the streets, the food, and the rhythm of daily life. Instead of chasing the usual Japanese greatest hits, I followed a simple rule for this trip: Let the region decide what you eat. That led me to: • Omicho Market — one of Japan’s best seafood markets • Raw scallops from the Sea of Japan • The preserved samurai and geisha districts • Kenrokuen, one of the most famous gardens in the country • Kanazawa-style curry at the legendary Turban Curry • And a quiet bowl of jibuni, a centuries-old duck stew from Kaga cuisine One rainy day wasn’t enough to understand Kanazawa. But it was enough to realize something important. Tokyo proves Japan can scale perfection. Kanazawa proves it can preserve it. Next stop: Takayama — the Hida beef capital of Japan. #kanazawa #omicho #kanazawacurry #turbancurry #jibuni #kenrokuen #hidabeef #japanculinarytravel
