***The Paradons were a vocal group from Bakersfield, California. It's said that their name came from that fact that the two founding members considered themselves to be "a pair of Don Juans.” The group began by singing locally at school dances and clubs in 1959. Within a few months they secured a recording session with Milestone Records. Their first release, "Diamonds and Pearls,“ became a hit in the U.S., peaking at #27 on the R n’ B chart and #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. Members were: Charles Weldon, Edward Scott, West Tyler, Bill Myers, and William Powers. Weldon went on to be an actor in films like "Serpico" and TV shows like “Law and Order.” Weldon recreates his original lead here and is backed by Shelly Buchansky, Jack Scandura, Joel Katz, and show M.C. Bobby Jay. ***In 2008, Mark del Costello produced a 25th anniversary concert commemorating his classic, magnificent 1983 show. Many of the singers had passed, but some remained for his second Burlington concert. Here are some very good performances that I don’t believe have already been posted.
