Most crop of rain fed areas and KPK was not badly hit and crop was most probably at this stage. The crop badly lodged at milky stage may suffer a yield loss of 30% whereas, an estimate of 10 % has been calculated if it lodges at hard milky or dough stage. Very minor yield is expected if lodged after change in color of wheat ears and stems. Selecting the right wheat variety according to the region and climate is the key to achieving higher yield and quality grain. Punjab has diverse agro-climatic zones — from the irrigated central and southern plains to the rainfed (barani) northern regions. Each area has its own temperature range, rainfall pattern, and soil type, which influence the performance of wheat varieties. Farmers should therefore choose region-specific, disease-resistant, and high-yielding varieties recommended by the Agriculture Department. In Central and Southern Punjab (such as Faisalabad, Multan, Khanewal, and Bahawalpur regions), heat-tolerant and rust-resistant varieties like Akbar 2019, Anaj 2020, Galaxy 2013, and Ujala 2016 are suitable. These varieties perform well under irrigated conditions and maintain good grain quality even in warmer temperatures. For Northern Punjab and barani areas (like Rawalpindi, Chakwal, and Attock), varieties such as Pakistan 2013, Dharabi 2011, Barani 17, and NARC 2011 are recommended, as they can withstand drought stress and variable rainfall. Farmers should also consider their sowing time — early, normal, or late — and local disease trends while finalizing the seed choice. Using certified seed from reputable sources ensures purity and vigor, improving yield potential.
