BKK launches urban farming training Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom (BKK) has launched a training of urban farmers. The training is supported by Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) and it will be implemented by BKK in partnership with the Stanbic Business Incubator Ltd. The training was launched by the BKK Prime Minister Owek Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi at BKK offices. Speaking during the launch, the Premier said the Kingdom targets supporting over 150 groups across Bunyoro region this financial year. The first set of training has attracted 40 farmers who have been nominated by 40 different farmer groups in Bunyoro region. Each of the trained farmers will be supported with technologies and high value seedlings to be used in setting up an urban garden. The trained farmers will be role models of their respective group members. The Kingdom plans to role out more empowerment interventions for farmers. The Kingdom is prioritizing agriculture because more than 70 percent of the population in Bunyoro derives it's livelihood from agriculture. According to the BKK Minister of Production Owek. Wairindi Wilson, this training will enhance capacities of urban farmers to enable them utilize the small pieces of land for increased production and incomes. He said the farmers are being empowered to enable them have enough food for improved nutrition and for income generation. The ceremony was attended by UNOC Board of directors, UNOC technical officials, senior officials from the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, officials from the Stanbic Business Incubator Ltd, BKK cabinet ministers and staff, security Chiefs, the Hoima City Lord Mayor Hon. Brian Kaboyo, the Deputy Hoima Resident City Commissioner Mr. Kasigazi William and representatives of oil companies. #kabalegatv #UNOC #Bunyoro
