Life—long Chicagoan, Roman Catholic priest, and outspoken civil rights advocate Father Michael Pfleger has been the pastor of Saint Sabina Church on the South Side for more than 30 years, ministering to a primarily African—American parish in a neighborhood deeply afflicted by drug and gun related violence. Pfleger combines an orthodox theology with radical activism, in which preaching is coterminous with politicking. His stances have brought him censure from the Archdiocese, a portrayal in Spike Lee's film Chiraq, and the utter devotion of his community.
