At the end of June, I visited Mt. Hiei Enryakuji Temple and some spots in Sakamoto, Shiga. Mt. Hiei is often called “Mother Mountain” of Japanese Buddhism. With a history of over 1200 years, the temple has produced many prominent monks as a center for Buddhist study and training. Because of its traditions and historical value, it was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
