The remnants of China’s Long March 5B rocket splashed down in the Indian Ocean near the Maldives early on that Sunday morning. The China Manned Space Engineering Office said the “great majority” of the debris burned up as it re-entered Earth’s atmosphere. The US Space command confirmed the re-entry happened over the Arabian Peninsula. The news ended days of speculation about where the debris would come down. There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties, but the incident raised concern around the world, and US space agency Nasa criticised China’s space programme for allowing an uncontrolled re-entry of space debris.
