http://cecono.me twitter.com/canneconomy facebook.com/canneconomy Pete Williams, who rounds out the family trio behind Medicine Man Dispensary in Colorado (with his brother Andy Williams and his sister Sally Vander Veer) is the kind of person who makes friends easily. It may be because, as he says, he grows some of the finest, most effective cannabis in the market, but he is also an extremely warm, dynamic and engaging personality. All of those traits are on display in this interview, in which he takes us through the twists and turns of his life that brought him to becoming COO of Medicine Man Denver, one of the largest and best known cultivation facilities and dispensaries in Colorado. Though he describes himself as a lucky guy, we tend to think it’s his knack for problem solving, passion for the plant, and positive attitude that have brought him and Medicine Man this far. Enjoy! “What we’re selling now is something we have 5 years of data on, but I have the greenhouse going up, which is the future of the industry - using nature to your advantage. So greenhouses for a lot of states are the future… the next model is the fully-automated, mile-long greenhouse.” “Some people are there really for the looks, the flavor, and the effects. Some people don’t have that kind of money… if it affects them right, they’ll buy it. But other people have the money to say ‘I want the purple bud, I want the best of the best tasting,’ so there is the market for that gourmet bud still.” Pete Williams on whole-plant medicine: “THC by itself, will get you high. CBD by itself might help your seizures, but you combine, and it does a whole different thing.” “What’s surprised me the most is how many people I’m able to help in this industry, it’s so neat/ [There has been] 26% less opiate deaths in Colorado since marijuana was legalized. Parkinson’s and MS patients, so many who thought they had no help, these people are leading fairly normal lives now.” “That’s our model… being large-scale, [maintaining] high quality and consistency, but trying to keep the prices as low as possible for our demographics… we’re trying to cater to our customers.”
