The name “Beylerbeyi” means “Lord of Lords,” reflecting the area’s historical significance. History of Beylerbeyi Palace • The palace was built between 1861 and 1865 during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz (1861–1876). • It served as a summer residence for Ottoman sultans and a guesthouse for foreign dignitaries. • Many important figures, such as Empress Eugénie of France, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and other high-ranking officials, stayed at the palace. • During the early years of the Turkish Republic, Sultan Abdülhamid II was exiled here after his removal from the throne in 1909.
