Carrickmines station opened on July 10th 1854 , when the line opened the station had water tank that held 6,800 gallons of water it was used to replenish the steam engines for the race specials to Foxrock but after steam was phased out in the mid 1950's it stopped been used . it was reduced to a halt status under Foxrock in December 1951 and the line closed on New years eve 1958 the station came back to life on June 17th /18th 1960 when it was used in the film Johnny Nobody evident in the footage is only the down track remained all tracks had been removed up to Foxrock - The station site was auctioned off and right up to the luas construction works in 2008 the platforms and waiting room and ramp still existed . A wall was built in front of the 1854 station and the road overbridge was replaced with a new ramp put in the Luas stop is further south than where the original platforms were with a new car park beside it with the repurposed orante Iron parapet at the entrance the luas extension opened on October 16th 2010
