I don’t recall ever sharing or even making lines quite like this before. I enjoyed it so well as an off-camera creative self-care pre-bed winddown, I wanted to share it with you. Grab your art journal or paper, and a pen, and let's make some simple, relaxing art with gentle repetition that can help us slide into flow where all the noise quiets. Welcome to BETTER WITH ART! I’m Melinda and I’m here to encourage you to reclaim your creativity and practice creative self-care with weekly small-art prompts that can be done in the privacy of an art journal or on paper if you don’t have one. If you'd like an art journal that’s ideal for my simple form of art journaling that uses various mediums, the paper is important. It needs to be a heavy weight and preferably hot-press because although I love the texture of cold-press it's really hard on markers and pens. The mixed-media one I use in my videos and the art journaling groups at the library where I work is 140lb/300gsm. It stands up to all my dry, wet, and layered applications. Sold in a three-pack, it also remains the best regular-price value that I've found: https://amzn.to/4f3rQot (edit: Unfortunately, this journal is no longer available in the size I use. I’m still looking for the best possible value and have started trying the following options: GREAT paper, and, at just 4”x6”, a nice travel option. Arrtx Watercolor Sketchbook 2-Pack https://amzn.to/41d2fEF I’ve started testing these, and so far so good: Lightwish Watercolor Sketchbook https://amzn.to/4ia4H5Y LIGHTWISH Double the refill paper that could be used to refill while binding finished pages with something as simple as yarn or small metal rings, or just using and binding the paper: LIGHTWISH Watercolor Paper 2-Pack https://amzn.to/3Qw9dzH Another HOT PRESS heavyweight watercolor journal, currently in my Amazon cart: https://amzn.to/3QSI36B Also in my cart, another LIGHTWISH journal, at least claiming to be lay-flat: https://amzn.to/4hQhxGz What I can say about this paper as I haven’t had time to test it yet, is it is SMOOTH: Speedball Fluid 100 https://amzn.to/3ENRjWx I've been experimenting with these Dylusions creative journals to modify for Muse packs to spark your creativity. So far, so good, at least with collage-type pages. The pages are more ivory or like a pale manila folder than white, and like a heavy cardstock: https://amzn.to/4gUPmVU ) Here’s the set that contains the pen I’m using: https://amzn.to/4f7bhrO And another inexpensive option on Amazon: https://amzn.to/41pTzwK Any pen will do. If you use any of my Amazon product links and make a qualifying purchase, I will, at no cost to you, earn a commission, a convenient way you can support my channel with your purchase.
