5/18/25 Fruitless Mulberry tree is simply a male flower tree. Meaning it will produce male flowers for pollen and eventually drop it will never have edible fruits. The issue with fruitless mulberry trees is huge problems. Imagine a city full of fruitless male mulberries. You can count on a high allergy pollen due to the large amount of male pollen in such a small area. The city will never plant a fruiting mulberry due to the maintenance of fruit dropping making a mess and staining city streets. Costing tax payers even more than low maintained fruitless male mulberry tree. So the only mulberries that is permitted to grow is male fruitless mulberry. These are great for shade trees in parks. Often, when we want to grow mulberry tree it is for the fruit. For shade, we have plenty of other options like Japanese Maples. This preference for fruiting mulberry to counter balances this male only mulberry city! If you are afraid of stains just get a white mulberry the stain only comes from purple and black mulberries varieties. However, if you live in Washington State like me. I have yet to see any local mulberry tree planted by the city. I do have plenty of local friends who are into edible fruit trees who have fruiting mulberries. I don't often see both male and female flowers on fruit trees. Except for a few varieties of persimmons and mulberries. And, for mulberries I have only seen it with Wellington and Illinois Everbearing Mulberry varieties. I'm sure there a few others, like Temaha but I don't have one in today's video to compare. I know it is a very common question when you see a mulberry tree. The first question is can I get any edible fruit? I hope this short video will help those enjoying a hunt in their own city looking to find a good mulberry seedling to identify the gender of the mulberry tree.
