Well, let me first start off by saying that the concept of eating addiction is a concept that is actually a bit controversial; actually, quite a bit controversial, amongst eating disorder professionals. There are some eating professionals that really believe in the concept of eating addiction, and yet there are some that really think that there are limitations of thinking about eating, and eating problems as an addiction. With that being said, I think when people talk about feeling that they have an eating addiction, what many people mean by that is something along the lines that they compulsive about their eating. Maybe they feel like they're eating is out of control, that they sit down to a snack or a meal and maybe it turns into a much larger amount of food ingested than was originally intended. But know that some people can mean other things by eating addiction, so some people can feel addicted to dietary rules that they engage in. And eating very rigidly and only in certain limited ways, can itself for some people feel like an eating addiction. So there's no one set of eating addiction symptoms, but if there is a sense that something about your eating patterns are out of control, that eating is no longer primarily about nourishment and is maybe bringing less pleasure and more a sort of feeling like something is ruling your life, you may have an eating problem. Whether you call it eating addiction, or just a problem with your eating, it might be something that very well stands to receive some consultation from an experienced professional that sees these types of problems.
