In this video, I visited Baranagar Shiv Temple at Azimganj , Murshidabad . Baranagar is a village on the west bank of the Bhagirathi River in Murshidabad district. Azimganj City railway station is 1 km away from this village and Azimganj Junction station is 2 km away. Azimganj Junction is 219 km from Kolkata. If you take an express train from Howrah, you have to get down at Azimganj Junction. From there, you can go to Azimganj City by toto. If you take a passenger train from Sealdah, you can get down at Azimganj City. There are a few hotels near the city station for accommodation. You can also cross the Ganges to Baranagar by getting down at Jiaganj station on the Sealdah-Lalgola line. On the way from Azimganj City station to Baranagar, a Shiva temple can be seen on the right side of the Ganges, which is known as the Panchamukhi or Panchmukhi Shiva Temple. Located almost on the ground level, the south-facing temple with a three-arched entrance is in the 'Dochala' or 'Ek Bangla' style. There are 'terracotta' decorations on the three arches in front of the temple. Although the 'terracotta' is now very faded due to the coating of paint. The subject of the terracotta: The war of Rama and Ravana. The founder and the date of establishment of the temple are not known. In 1940 AD, the local Jain businessman D. L. Nowlakha renovated the temple. The temple is located in an enclosure. There is a beautiful flower garden in front. A five-faced Shiva is worshipped daily in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
