Information Technology Services and Pius the 12th Memorial Library have partnered to respond to SLU’s ever-growing need for a wider range of current and cutting-edge technologies. Located on the main floor of Pius Library, the Academic Technology Commons will be an engaging, collaborative space where information and innovation unite. The ATC will drive new technology adoption, usage, and innovation while supporting and enhancing SLU’s academic mission. Customer focused support teams from the Library and ITS will empower faculty, staff, and students to expand the range of what they think is possible. The ATC will encompass over 14,000 square feet, offering access to current and emerging technologies, information, and an integrated support team. The Innovation Studio will offer the SLU community access to cutting edge tools for data visualization, 3d printing, and robotics. Immersive Idea Labs will provide patrons access to three walls of whiteboard space and large touch enabled displays. Flexible furniture design throughout the ATC will support a wide variety of working preferences, while quiet nooks and active-learning classrooms will combine user-friendly technologies with dynamic spaces. Recording studios and media editing stations will support many levels of creative complexity, enabling simple audio recordings, green-screen videos, and everything in between. One-on-one consultation rooms and small group collaboration studios will offer technology-infused options for working with groups, or with one of our in-house experts. By creating exciting, supportive, and innovative spaces, the ATC will enhance the SLU academic experience, and encourage development of real-world, 21st century skills.
