12/30/2017: Bob Isaacs calls while the “Gotham Gals” play at the New Haven, CT Contradance. BAND: The “Gotham Gals” (http://www.GothamGals.com) ● Julia Hartman (fiddle & baritone fiddle) ● Robin Russell (piano) ● Marnen Laibow-Koser (violin, viola, flute, and soprano recorder) Note: Marnen substituted for regular band-musician Norma Castle (flute & percussion), who could not make it. Together since 2010, the Gotham Gals propel and dazzle dancers with their high energy rhythmic contras – playing French Canadian, New England, Celtic, Southern, and Jazz styles. Their English dance music ranges from lushly romantic, to highly driving, to humorously lighthearted, with all the emotions in between. Dancers of all genres appreciate their rhythms and musical variety. The ‘Gals play regularly in the New York Metro area, and tour beyond. TUNES: (0:00 - 2:52) “Kitchen Girls” (A) (2:52 - 5:40) “Whiskey Before Breakfast” (D) (5:40 - END) “Colored Aristocracy” (G) DANCE: "Click Your Heels” (Bob Isaacs, Becket, 2009) A1 – Long Lines Fwd & Back (8), Gents Allemande Left 1 ½ to a Wave of 4 (8) A2 – Balance the Wave (4), First Neighbor Allemande Right ¾ to Long Waves (4), Balance, Second Neighbor Allemande Left ¾ B1 – Ladies Chain to Partner (8), ½ Hey (Ladies R, N2 L, Gents Right) (8) B2 – Partner Balance & Swing (4, 12) From Bob – '“Click Your Heels” was written 12/17/2009. It’s one of my favorite wave dances for the allemande L/chain/hey flow and its mix of figures.’ CAMERA: Canon S95, 720p, auto settings. REMARKS: The New Haven Country Dancers usually dance at the Branford Community House but dance at the Friends Meeting House in New Haven, CT while the regular venue is under repairs.. Fifth Saturday dances are usually "advanced" dances. This was the last contra before the break.
