The Ultimate Solapur Food Trail: Masala Fish Fry, Fish with Rassa, Bhakri, Sugarcane Juice & more

This vlog begins the way many of my favourite travel stories begin… with no plan — just a road, a little curiosity, and a sudden surprise. Somewhere on the drive, I was in full mood — casually singing that old Bollywood line, “Main bhel puri kha raha tha…” (only singing it, haan… not actually eating bhel puri!) — and then suddenly… Pune arrived like a friendly interruption. And I told Mubin, “You’ve never been to this place… and that is a proper miss.” So we turned the car and walked straight into one of my most loved old-school spots — Vohuman Cafe, Pune. Now Vohuman has changed a bit… a wall here, a layout there… but the soul is the same. That strong, simple tea. That comfort you can’t explain. We went for all the classics — special chai, bun maska, and the omelette situation… one with cheese, one without. Then came the real plot twist — heat. Proper, serious heat. The kind where you don’t look for sightseeing… you look for a cooler and you respect it like a life-saving device. And in between all of this, the road kept doing what it does best — handing us strangers, conversations, and small moments that feel oddly personal. And that’s how we landed at a place I didn’t know would become a highlight of the day: Hotel Jay Bhavani Machhi Khanaval, Bhigwan - Clean Kitchen serving up fresh fish — that comes from the region around the Ujani Dam. You could feel the freshness in the taste. We tried masala fry, we tried fish made with simpler flavours — just lemon and turmeric, and then came the real deal: rassa —spicy, soulful gravy with jowar and bajra bhakri. And just when I thought the meal was done… they brought something I had never tried before - Fish soup. Yes, In that heat! One version was milder, other was proper fire — and I’m standing there doing what I always do: trying to look brave while my tongue is secretly panicking yet I genuinely enjoyed it. On the way, we also stopped at a street-side sugarcane juice stall — a blessing when the temperature is touching 38–39°C. Cold, fresh, and instantly energizing. This vlog is really about that beautiful feeling of travel — where a random detour becomes a memory, where a chai stop becomes nostalgia, where a fish lunch becomes a story, and where strangers treat you like their own. And yes… all of this happens while I’m headed towards Solapur for my evening Stand-Up Comedy show. So come along, dost... Let's taste the joy of life.
