Judges is about the book of Judges. [Verse 1] After Joshua died, the people lost their fear, Forgot the Lord who brought ’em here. They bowed to the idols on the hilltop high, And the God who loved ’em turned His eyes. He said, “If you want their gods, go take their hand— But don’t call My name when you can’t stand.” [Chorus] ’Cause when the Lord stepped back, the enemies came, Took their peace and stole their name. But when they cried out through the smoke and pain, God raised up a judge to break the chain. Round and round that old wheel turned— A people fallin’ ’cause they’d never learn. [Verse 2] Othniel rose with a righteous fight, Ehud struck justice in the dead of night. Deborah sang truth when the men lost heart, And Gideon found courage in the smallest part. But every time God gave ’em rest, They’d turn again and fail the test. [Chorus] ’Cause when the Lord stepped back, the enemies came, Took their homes and mocked His name. But when they cried out through the smoke and pain, God raised up a judge to break the chain. Round and round that old wheel turned— A people fallin’ ’cause they’d never learn. [Verse 3] Jephthah carried wounds that ran real deep, Samson played with fire like it wouldn’t keep. Broken men, but God used each— A warning louder than a preacher’s preach. But the people kept runnin’ to the world’s sweet lies— Till judgment fell right before their eyes. [Bridge] And the book ends cold with a line so true: “No king ruled, so they did what they wanted to.” When a nation walks blind, there’s a price to pay— And the Lord will let ’em learn the hard way. [Final Chorus] ’Cause when the Lord steps back, the strong grow weak, And the proud fall down when the truth they seek. But if the people cry out with a humble plea, He’ll raise up a savior like He used to be. Judgment stands when the hearts turn black— That’s what happens when the Lord steps back.
