Complete open of the last episode taped of "The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour." Program aired February 27, 1974, featuring guest star Joel Grey, who had recently starred in the musical Cabaret. The duo perform Daniel Boone's "Beautiful Sunday," which reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972. The opening song was taped Thursday, January 21, 1974 in front of 350 audience members in Studio 31 of CBS' Television City in Los Angeles, just two days after Sonny filed for legal separation from Cher (and the final comedy bits were taped the following day). This particular episode ranked #8 for the week, according to A.C. Nielsen. The last original episode of the series actually aired a week later (March 6, 1974), but had been taped earlier. The atmosphere of this taping was electric because audience members were aware of the situation, and provided a tumultuous ovation for the couple, who hardly betrayed a trace of the tension.
