As part of the project Geo-Coat (funded by European Union's Horizon 2020, Grant agreement 764086), novel corrosion- and erosion- resistant coatings based on selected high entropy alloys (HEAs) and ceramic/metal mixtures (Cermets) have been developed, showing remarkable resistance to threats from geothermal operations. These coatings can be applied through standard coating techniques (primarily high velocity oxygen-fuel and laser cladding) and have been designed to provide the required bond strength, hardness and density for challenging geothermal applications. This event presented an overview of the Geo-Coat methodology to address the material challenges, exciting results from in-situ durability testing of the coatings in real geothermal environments, demonstration of flow assurance simulation models, demonstration of economic impact of Geo-Coat through levelized cost of energy (LCOE) results, and the benefits of using coatings from lessons learned by end users. Presentations: • The Geo-Coat Project (Francesco Fanicchia, Senior Project Leader, Surface Engineering, TWI) • In-Situ Durability Testing of Geo-Coat Developed Coatings (Dagur Ingi Ólafsson, Project Manager, Innovation Center Iceland) • Geo-Coat Geothermal Flow Assurance Simulator (Per Kjellgren, Founder, FlowPhys AS, Norway) • The Environmental Footprint Results with and without Geo-Coat Technology Components Adopted in a Geothermal Power Plant (Mohammed Chowdhury, Applied Physicist, Technovative Solutions Ltd (TVS)) • Economic Impact of Geo-Coat in Highly Corrosive Geothermal Environment (Mohammad Ashadul Hoque, Technovative Solutions Ltd (TVS)) • Benefits of Using Coatings in Geothermal Power Plants from an End-User Perspective: Lessons Learned (Kolbrún Ragna Ragnarsdóttir, Senior Project Manager, ON - Orka Náttúrunnar / ON Power) Discover more about TWI's geothermal energy research: https://www.twi-global.com/who-we-are... TWI holds a wide range of engineering events each year, including engineering webinars, in-person events, engineering conferences and more. These are ideal for professional engineers and those who are working across industry covering everything from aviation technology and artificial intelligence to civil engineering topics, mechanical engineering events, modelling and simulation, green energy advances, renewable energy, robotics, machine learning and software engineering, and more. Helping you to stay up to date with the latest cutting edge advances in engineering and technology our events can aid with your continuing education requirements and provide the opportunity to network. The great success and demand we have received for our webinars in recent times has seen us move to providing more content online, with platforms for you to ask questions and exchange ideas across digital channels in real time. We will also continue to offer in-person events as well as sending our experts to present at and attend outside events including national and international conference days and seminars.
