The Central Epidemic Command Center on Sunday announced 22 new COVID-19 cases, among which 21 were crew members of a Taiwanese military supply ship that docked in Palau from March 12 to March 15. The other case was imported from abroad. Taiwan’s total number of coronavirus cases now stands at 420. One hundred and eighty-nine patients have made a full recovery, and six have died. The supply ship, the Panshih, was part of a fleet of three warships that visited the Pacific Island nation. After three crew members of the Panshih tested positive for the virus on Saturday, the command center spent all night testing all 744 crew and naval students aboard the three ships. The total number of diagnosed cases from the fleet, including the three who tested positive on Saturday, stands at 24. It currently can’t be determined if the source of infection was local or from a foreign country, so the command center has placed these cases in their own separate category. The naval vessels, which left Palau March 15, were at sea for over 20 days before they returned to Taiwan on April 9, and it is not known what their activities were during this period.
