Welcome to the #ChordMelodyChallenge and today is day 1! First thing is first, we need to talk about how to play the melody and the chords at the same time. We are usually either strumming away with the chords or picking through the melody, so...how do you play both at that same time? The foundation of the ability to do so is with the thum strum. No, not just strumming down like normal with your thumb, but actually using the thumb to push the melody to the front of the chord sonically. Your ear hears the highest note in the chord, and once you learn that you can arrange songs and progressions with chord shapes have melody in font. To show you how to do this we are going to walk you through exactly what the thumb strum is and take a melody in the key of F and turn into a chord melody by applying the thumb strum. Afterwards we are going to do the same melody in the key of C and look at the potential problems that can pop up with that key and how to navigate it.
