MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) malfunction for 2017 Hyundai Sonata Sport.

My 2017 Sonata Sport has the MDPS malfunction intermittently at less than 43,000 miles. The power steering will be gone when it happens and the steering wheel will lock-up and become very heavy. It is extremely dangerous to anyone on the road when it happens. Hyundai extended the MDPS manufacturer’s warranty to 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever come first, in 2022. However, the dealership said the MDPS extended warranty doesn’t cover the $3,000 part (MDPS steering column and assembly). They also charged me diagnostic fee of $250 just to watch my recorded video. I will contact Hyundai Consumer Affair to file a complaint because San Leandro Hyundai dealership here in CA doesn’t honor Hyundai warranty and found excuse to deny service to Hyundai’s owner. If you have the same problem for your Sonata, please report your incidents and experience to NHTSA.gov. It is a government agency that can give order to car manufacturers and create safety recalls. Hyundai needs to make this a recall, not just a warranty extension that their dealerships don’t care.
