CAUTION: Please do not do this activity with any sharp objects (knives, scissors) Kitchen Utensil Race Safety consideration: Establish a “walking only” rule if necessary. Task: Be the first to place your objects in the bowel using your kitchen tools! Materials • 4-5 various objects of different sizes and textures (Eg. A sponge, a ball, a marker, hard boiled egg, etc.) • A set of kitchen tools/utensils (preferably a set of tongs, a fork and a spoon) • A small bowl or bin Instructions: Set up a race (can either be a timed race or facilitator vs. participant race). Using a long table, or floor surface, place a bowl at one end of the surface, and a set of small objects at the other end. You will also place 3 kitchen utensils in front of the objects. The objective of the race is to move the objects into the bowl using each of the utensils provided. Round 1: Conduct the race using only the tongs Round 2: Conduct the race using the fork and spoon Round 3: Conduct the race with all three utensils available to use Reflection: Ask your child which utensils worked best for each of the different objects. Were they able to modify how they used the utensil to fit their skill set?
