The way things are going with masks and such that we may be in lock-down again in the near future, so I better do this while I can. As usual the big field was unavailable, but fortunately they recently mowed the smaller site, while had weeds & foxtails 18 inches high. Winds varied but were mild for the most part. I started with up-elevator that I could not figure out. Servo travel seemed limited Turns out the sub-trim had some up elev set and was the cause of the up elevator but not the travel issue. The plane still flew well without and was more powerful than in stock brushed motor form. But shortly after the fun started the plane started acting funny and soon tumbled and fell out of the sky. Inspection showed an elevator stuck in the up position. Linkage failure? Deeper inspection revealed an elevator servo sticking at one end of travel. I saw nothing physical to impede it so I assume electrical. I removed the brick (held with clear RTV adhesive), removed the servo from the brick and cleans / lubricated the wiper surfaces with the best stuff for linear servos, DeOxit F5 fader cleaner and lubricant. ( DeOxit D5 is a popular electrical cleaner and lube, but slide faders and linear servos have "painted on" resistive wiper strips that require extra lubricant for long life. F5 has just that, much more than D5). After re-assembly the servo ran like new again. I hope to re-fly the maiden soon. Happy flying!
