Ted Carter’s resignation as Ohio State University president just two years into his five-year contract has prompted questions about what led to his departure and what, if anything, he will receive from the university going forward. Ohio State said the matter is under an internal investigation. A key question is who Carter gave access to university leadership “for the gain of her personal business.” The woman has not been named, but JobsOhio said it was alerted that the "situation is possibly connected to a relationship between him and the host of a podcast for veterans" that JobsOhio sponsored. "JobsOhio supports a variety of workforce initiatives to educate and attract veterans about the excellent job opportunities and quality of life in Ohio," a spokesperson said. "The Callout Podcast opportunity was consistent with that mission of outreach. The sponsorship of this podcast went through our standard and rigorous legal process, as with any sponsorship given by JobsOhio.” ABC6 Investigates requested a series of records to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the investigation, including Carter’s university calendar to see who he had been meeting with, his personnel file, and the record or complaint that initiated the investigation. Carter signed his offer letter to come to Columbus in August 2023. He began making more than $1 million a year as university president in January 2024 and was eligible for a 30% performance award of that salary. His contract also included $50,000 a year in fringe benefits, a $250,000 transition reward in his first year that he does not have to pay back, and $45,000 in moving expenses that he does not have to pay back. Now that he has resigned, Ohio State spokesperson Ben Johnson said Carter will not receive additional compensation. “There’s no additional compensation. He resigned,” Johnson said. Carter’s contract was not set to end until December 2028. According to the contract, Carter must move out of the university’s presidential residence in 30 days. However, while he is not receiving any more compensation, the university gave him 90 days to leave. _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WSYX on Facebook: / wsyxabc6 WSYX on Twitter: / wsyx6 WSYX on Instagram: / wsyx6 Subscribe to WSYX on YouTube: / @wsyxabc6 Daily News Playlist: • 6 On Your Side For more information, visit https://abc6onyourside.com/ Have a news tip?
