#germanchocolatecake #germanchocolaterecipe #coconutpeacanfilling #coconutpecanfrosting Here the German Chocolate Recipe my mom uses: 1 4-ounce Germans Sweet Chocolate bar (Broken into several pieces, add 1/2 cup of water and melted needs to be put into the cake batter at room temperature) 2 1/4 cup of cake flour (sift 2 times and re-measure) 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 Cup Butter (softened) (2 sticks) 1 1/4 Cups Sugar 4 Large Eggs (room temperature) My mom uses 5 large eggs if store doesn’t have extra large eggs Separate the yolk and the egg whites. Add yolks to cake batter on at a time 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1 Cup Buttermilk (Room temperature) Chocolate needs to be add to cake at room temperature so do this step 1st. Break chocolate in several pieces and add 1/2 cup of water. Put in microwave in 30 second intervals until melted. After melting put to the side until room temperature. Add butter to mixer Then Add Sugar Separate egg whites and egg yolks Set egg whites aside (this step is done at the end) Add egg yolks one at a time with butter, sugar in mixer Add Vanilla Extract Sift Cake flour 2 times and re-measure. Combine flour, salt and baking soda When adding flour to cake batter Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk. Make sure everything is combined well. Egg whites - blend until egg whites form what is called (Stiff peaks)(looks like foam) Once egg whites are completed fold into cake batter until completely mixed Preheat Oven 350 Use three 8x2 inch round cake pans. Place parchment paper in bottom of each pan. Separate Cake batter into the 3 cake pans evenly. Bake for about 30 miniutes or until when toothpick is inserted into center of cake and comes out clean Coconut-Pecan Frosting 1/2 cup butter (1 stick) 1 Cup Sugar 1 Can Evaporated Milk 3 Large egg yolks (slightly beaten) 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 1/4 Cups flaked coconuts 1 Cup chopped Pecans Over low heat, In sauce pot combine evaporated milk with butter,sugar and egg yolks. Increase heat to medium and stir constantly until thick (about 10 minutes). When thick, add pecans and coconuts. After stirring in pecans and coconut take off heat and refrigerate until cooled completely Ice your cake and refrigerate again for about 15-30 minutes. Then serve.
