SO the Seiko 5 SSK GMT (SSK001) has been on my wrist for over a month now and I am loving it more than when I got the watch! After spending time with Seiko’s game changing new gmt movement the 4R34, I was able to understand the nuances of the watch and how it is different from the very similar SKX. The SSK GMT is not just a “better SKX” it feels as different as can be and much of the great experience can be attributed to an incredible bracelet from Strapcode So in this video I will get into why the SSK GMT feels like a very different watch compared to the iconic SKX having worn the watch for over a month and I will get into how the entire experience was improved by swapping the factory jubilee bracelet for a beads of rice bracelet from Strapcode. Then I will get into the different aspects of the watch that helps elevate the SSK001 GMT dial and case. 2022 has been a huge year for new releases from the Omega Swatch MoonSwatch to the Tudor Black Bay Pro. And now Seiko has joined in with the new sub $500 Seiko 5 SSK GMT lineup which includes the SSK001 (SBSC001 black dial/ black and gray bezel), the SSK003 (SBSC003 blue dial/ black and blue bezel), and finally the SSK005 (SBSC005 orange dial/ black and gray bezel). This watch is essentially a SKX GMT and its a watch that has been dreamed up by Seiko fans and the Seiko mod community for years. Given the popularity of GMTs from the likes of Rolex, Tudor, and Grand Seiko, it made sense to release an affordable GMT option. I am in love with this new release because of what it means to the community, because we now finally have an affordable Seiko GMT option. Also as an owner of 3 Seiko SKX’s (SKX007, 009, 013) I am so happy that Seiko decided to give this watch the new 4R34 GMT movement.
