He is the Breath of God! The Breath of God is connected to natural life (Gen 2v7) The Breath of God is connected to spiritual life (Jn. 20v22) The Breath of God is connected to the inspiration of the Scripture (2 Tim 3v16) 2. He Is Holy! The Holy Spirit is distinguished from all other spirits (familiar spirits Lev 20v27; evil spirits Judg 9v23; lying spirits 1 Kings 22v22; unclean spirits Matt 10v1; foul spirits Mark 9v25; spirits of divination Acts 16v16; seducing spirits 1 Tim 4v1; spirits of devils Rev 16v14) that are not “holy.” The Holy Spirit represents a holy God. He inspired holy men to write a holy book (2 Pet 1v2). He is in the world to deal with the sin issue (Jn 16v8-11). He makes us holy (2 Thes 2v13) 3. The Holy Spirit is God! The Holy Spirit is the first person of the Godhead to be named and identified in the Bible (Gen 1v2). Peter called the Holy Spirit God (Acts 5v3-4) Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as God (Matt.12v28; Luke 11v20) He is also called the Spirit of God (1 Pet. 4v14; Gen. 1v2; 1 Cor. 2v10-14), the Spirit of Jesus (Acts 16v7, NIV), the Spirit of the Living God (2 Cor. 3v3), the Spirit of the Father (Mt. 10v20). The terms “Spirit of God” or “Spirit of the Lord” are used nearly seventy times in the Scripture in reference to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is described as having divine attributes of God. He is present everywhere (Ps 139v7-12). He knows everything (1 Cor 2v9-10). He is all-powerful (Ps 104v30). The Holy Spirit is described as having the moral attributes of God. Spirit of Love (Rom. 15v30). Spirit of Holiness (Rom. 1v4). Spirit of Truth (Jn 14v6). The Holy Spirit is seen doing the works of God. He was involved in creation (Gen. 1v2; Job 33v4; Ps. 104v30). Imparts life and resurrection power (Jn 6v63; Rom. 8v11). Inspired prophecy and the Scriptures (2 Pet. 1v21; 2 Sam. 23v2; 2 Tim. 3v16). Gives new birth (Jn. 3v2-5). 4. The Holy Spirit is a person. Jesus referred to Him as a Person.
